Two health officials from Katutura Intermediate Hospital visited the National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC) to seek for collaboration. Elizabeth Hamwaanyena, Control Registered Nurse and Justine Shivute, Control Admin Officer were at NYC to discuss with NYC officials – Sircca Nghitila, Programmes Manager and Dominic Mukumba, Manager, Human Capital and Administration, on how the youth can volunteer at the hospital. Simon Taapopi, Secretary General of the Namibian National Students Organisations (NANSO) also attended the meeting. Volunteers will work at the hospital as cleaners, maintenance staff and porters. Volunteers are also needed as Administrative Clerks to do data entry and filling at the wards.
Sircca who spoke on behalf of NYC pointed out that there might be many young people who would be interested in participating in a volunteer program, not only to gain skills but to give back to their communities. She strongly suggest that discussion on the matter continues and if all goes well, the idea can result in improved service delivery to the comfort of patients at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital where majority of Windhoek residents are treated on daily.
